LAB29 is aimed at local and international artists who wish to experiment, research, and develop new ideas within a compact residency format. Each residency concludes with a public presentation, offering insight into the artistic processes and developments that emerged during the stay.
Our final resident is Julieta Blanco. From Argentina, she blends sociology, performance, writing & communication into cultural projects that cross boundaries between disciplines.
Sarching for Pancha and Lorenza. Voices from a colonial witchcraft trial
Installation and performance. A researcher enters the archive of a colonial trial to search for the voices of two women from northwestern Argentina accused of witchcraft in the 18th century. All that remains of Pancha and Lorenza is the case file: words pulled from them under torture and transcribed by the colonial scribes — one of the few documented witchcraft cases known from the region. The piece moves between overlapping testimonies, recorded voices, and the live presence of the researcher/performer. It draws on the research of historian Judith Farberman, published in Las salamancas de Lorenza (2005). This is the project's first public showing, developed during a one-week residency at Neues Schauspiel.
